First Grade Music Overview

The music curriculum for first grade contains the following units designed to excite students about creating and producing music.  The Music Expressions Curriculum is used in the Fort Dodge Community Schools.

In the first grade children build on the concept of opposites/contrasts through melodic direction, dynamics, tempo, and mood.  They begin to be able  to group characteristics, such as a woodblock as a wood instrument and a triangle as a metal instrument. They can also discriminate between phrases or patterns that are the same and different.
