Third Grade Music Overview

The music curriculum for third grade contains the following units designed to excite students about creating and producing music.  The Music Expressions Curriculum is used in the Fort Dodge Community Schools.

In the third grade students combine and build upon prior knowledge.  They can then begin to distinguish factors of style evolving from recognizing musical patterns, timbral similarities, and musical mood and setting.  They are able to focus on vocal tone color, instrumentation, and cultural and historical features. At this level, the students study world string instruments focus on patterns in rhythms, melodies, form and movement.  They add duration and setting to their study of opposites/contrasts.  They also can begin to recognize musical groups such as ensembles or instrument families.
