Course Description

English Usage and Grammar is a fast paced exploration of parts of speech, punctuation, capitalization, sentence construction, correctness of expression, and vocabulary.  This course is not intended to be remedial.  It is intended to help prepare students with language construction knowledge expected in some college composition courses and to help improve written English usage and mechanics.
 
Content:

  •     Definitions and usage of adverb, noun, and adjective clauses
  •     Differences between dependent and independent clauses
  •     Construct own clauses
  •     Construct different kinds of sentences
  •     Composing paper on dialect
  •     Fiction piece on dialect of a region
  •     Critiquing regionalism and dialect
  •     Differences between relative pronouns, reflexive pronouns, indefinite pronouns, possessive pronouns, demonstrative pronouns
  •     Differences between correlative conjunction, coordinating conjunctions, and subordinating conjunctions
  •     Differences Denotations and connotations
  •     Sentences with assonance and alliteration
