Announcing the February Students and Employee of the Month
February 4, 2014, Fort Dodge, IA- The Fort Dodge Community School District is pleased to announce its students and employee of the month for February. This program recognizes one elementary, one middle school and one high school student, as well as one staff member monthly for their outstanding accomplishments.
Ava Larson is the Elementary Student of the Month. She was nominated by Ms. Maas, 4th grade teacher. She highlighted how Ava consistently tries her best, is not afraid to ask questions if she doesn’t understand, and willingly helps others once her work is finished. She also shared how Ava is kind to everyone, standing up for kids and volunteering to be partners with a student when no one else would. She stated Ava sets a good example and makes good choices no matter who is watching. Ava is the daughter of Tina Larson and Jeremy Larson.
Taj Lowrey is the Middle School Student of the Month. Taj was nominated by Mr. Rial, coordinator of the Academic Learning Community (ALC). He recognized Taj for meeting his goals to improve his academic performance so he could move into the regular academic pod. He also indicated that Taj has been a great leader in the ALC, helping both teachers and other students. Mr. Rial stated, “Taj has matured into an honest and well-rounded young man and successful student.” Taj is the son of Crystal Mikesell and Michael Lowrey.
Sydney Crotts is the High School Student of the Month. Sydney was nominated by Ms. Pratt, TAG instructor. She stated Sydney makes healthy lifestyle choices and exemplifies the six pillars of character. Her guidance and opinions are respected by her peers and adults alike. Sydney has challenged herself with the most rigorous coursework our District offers and will graduate with 20 credits beyond the requirements. Ms. Pratt wrote, “Sydney works hard at school and is a good citizen because it’s the right thing to do. She’s just a great kid who contributes to making our school a great place to work.” Sydney is the daughter of Bart Crotts and Sarah Knutson.
Jonathan Roberts, FDSH custodian, is the Employee of the Month. He was nominated by three of the Senior High counselors. They highlighted his desire to truly by “the One” for students at the school. Jonathan serves as a mentor to an elementary student, is collaborating with the counseling department to increase parent involvement with the African American community, and is organizing an assembly and activities to be used during Dodger Time for Black History month. The ladies stated, “Jonathan is a role model for our students in school and is willing to volunteer his time to help our community, making both our school and community stronger.”
