FDCSD Announces the January Students & Employee of the Month
January 2, 2014, Fort Dodge, IA- The Fort Dodge Community School District is pleased to announce its students and employee of the month for January. This program recognizes one elementary, one middle school and one high school student, as well as one staff member monthly for their outstanding accomplishments.
Blaze Lo is the Elementary Student of the Month. He was nominated Ms. Allen. She highlighted how Blaze is motivated to do his best and thrives on learning new, more complicated things. She stated he is kind and helpful to teachers and staff and is an excellent mentor to struggling students. She said that Blaze is an excellent, positive and empathetic student. He is the son of Ly and Paula Lo.
Eli Asay is the Middle School Student of the Month. He was nominated by the 8 Blue/Respect Team. The nomination recognized Eli for his polite and respectful character. It stated, “He has a willingness to give of himself. He goes above and beyond our expectations.” It also mentioned that as Ambassador for the Friends of Rachel Club he models citizenship by showing new students around the school. In addition to his outstanding character, the nomination also commended Eli for his academic achievements and willingness to help other students in class. He is the son of Brett and Dawn Asay.
Shelby Portz is the High School Student of the Month. She was nominated by Mr. Keane. In his nomination, he highlighted her desire to learn not only in the classroom, but through additional activities and initiatives. He noted that she has been an extraordinary leader over the past year and a half, and that her leadership has contributed to improving the culture and climate at Senior High and the image of the school in the community. He also stated that Shelby is an advocate for programs that will positively impact all students and is kind to every one she encounters. She is the daughter of Tim and Shawn Protz.
Rose Gammello, FDSH science instructor, is the Employee of the Month. She was nominated by Mr. Keane. He wrote that Rose is diligent in her contacts with parents, communicating with them and the counselors to help struggling students. He indicated she works hard to help students who are struggling and does whatever it takes to help them succeed in her classroom. He also stated that she is very professional when dealing with student behaviors, ensuring the student knows it is the behavior she doesn’t like.
