FDCSD Encourages Individuals to Consider School Board Service

July 20, 2020

July 17, 2020, Fort Dodge, IA- The Fort Dodge Community School District is seeking candidates to run for the school board.  Individuals who are passionate about education and providing a bright future for our youth are encouraged to run for election.  Nomination papers must be filed with Adriana Utley, FDCSD Board Secretary between July 20, 2020, and August 14, 2020, at 5:00 p.m.  School board elections will take place on September 8, 2020.  Two seats will be up for election.

According to a new law, Board vacancy appointments will need to go through the election process anytime there is an election, that includes special elections. With the District's resolution calling for a public referendum in September to update our revenue purpose statement and extend our PPEL, two seats will be on the ballot.

School board members are locally elected officials.  They play a significant role in student learning, determining educational goals, setting policy, and overseeing school finances among other items.  School board members are elected to four year terms, and do not receive any pay for their services.

Nomination papers for school board seats are available now at the FDCSD Central Administration Office, 104 South 17th St., Fort Dodge.  School board candidates must obtain the signatures of at least 50 qualified electors.  All papers and signatures must be returned to the Central Administration Office.  Questions may be directed to Utley at 574.5652.

The mission of the Fort Dodge Community School District is to provide quality learning experiences and build relationships that develop productive citizens ready for their futures. For more information about the Fort Dodge Community Schools visit www.fdschools.org or call 515.576.1161.
