FDCSD Names December Students and Employee of the Month
December 2, 2019, Fort Dodge, IA- The Fort Dodge Community School District is pleased to announce its students and employees of the month for December. This program recognizes one elementary, one middle school and one high school student, as well as one staff member monthly for exceeding expectations.
Wendel Mosley-Clark Jr. is the Elementary Student of the Month. Jennifer Becker and Kailee Keltner both nominated him. They stated Mosley-Clark works hard and has strong reading, writing and math skills. He is always on task and willing to help others when they need it. He is a great friend to the others in the classroom. He has worked on his behavior during the beginning months of school so it doesn’t interfere with his learning. Mosley-Clark takes pride in his positive behavior and is proud of himself when he makes good choices. For his positive choices, he spends his breaks reading to other classes or helping students. They concluded by saying, “Wendel has made a ton of growth since the beginning of the year. Watching his growth has been incredible and he inspires us to be our best, too!” He is the son of Shabreka Smith.
Cody Hamburger is the Middle School Student of the Month. The 8 Blue teachers and students nominated him. They shared Hamburger is dependable, has a great sense of humor and leads by example. He is respectful and nice to both classmates and teachers, showing kindness every day. He helps others if they need help or if they are feeling down. Hamburger is a friend to everyone, conveys empathy and genuinely cares about his peers. They concluded by saying, “Cody is a quiet leader in the classroom and a great person overall. He brings joy and happiness to the 8 Blue pod.” He is the son of Matthew and Dusti Hamburger.
Bereket Burns in the High School Student of the Month. Julie Mann nominated her. Mann said Burns shows a strong work ethic in class, is respectful and earnestly wants to dig deeper into subject areas. She is an “under the radar” leader in her peer group. She helps her peers, including giving of her time to tutor after school. Burns has a light about her including a kind and compassionate personality. Mann concluded by saying, “Not many freshman go out of their way to lift up, encourage and help peers outside of their friend group. Bereket has seen a need and stepped up to fill it.” She is the daughter of Jedidiah and Melissa Burns.
Lori Bell is the Employee of the Month. The 8th grade teachers and Whitney Ford nominated her. They shared Bell has classrooms in both the 7th and 8th grade pods and works closely with both teams keeping the best interest of the kids in mind. They shared she genuinely cares about her students and co-workers. She doesn’t hesitate to help teachers during class, help students in the classroom who have questions, and spend time talking to students about their activities from the night before. They shared Bell often goes without lunch or a break, but does not complain knowing how important it is for her to be with her students to help them succeed. They concluded by saying, “Lori teaches her students more than academic skills. She teaches them skills that are preparing them for their futures. She does this with a smile and is a blessing to work with.”
