FDCSD Names October Students and Employee of the Month

October 2, 2020

October 2, 2020, Fort Dodge, IA-  The Fort Dodge Community School District is pleased to announce its students and employees of the month for October.  This program recognizes one elementary, one middle school and one high school student, as well as one staff member monthly for exceeding expectations.

Chloe Simpson is the Elementary Student of the Month. Lisa Reisner and Racquel Benegas nominated Simpson.  They said Simpson is enthusiastic to learn all she can every day. She takes risks when it may be difficult, perseveres when she is challenged and supports others with her thinking and explaining. Her enthusiasm is contagious. Simpson models the 4 Bs every day.  She shows kindness to others in the classroom by working with and listening to them and by playing and including everyone on the playground. Simpson can always be counted on to do what is right and cheer on others even when no one is looking.  Reisner and Benegas concluded by saying, “Chloe brightens the school with her personality and her positive demeanor.  She makes us smile every day.”  Simpson is the daughter of Cory and Kate Simpson

Meah McCaleb is the Middle School Student of the Month.  Quennel McCaleb nominated her.  He said McCaleb shows her leadership skills in the classroom and outside the classroom and helps wherever she is needed. She is a role model for youth in the building. She meets with another girl every Wednesday. She is someone that other kids look up to. McCaleb is the daughter of Quennel and Lacey McCaleb.

Keymora Douglas is the Senior High Student of the Month.  Scott Sargent nominated her.  He shared that Douglas has faced the challenge of having to work from home for the past few weeks head on.  Despite this, she has continued to complete all her homework and was ready to return to class to continue her learning. Douglas seemed to keep a good attitude even while learning remotely.  She was persistent in meeting the challenges, and polite when requesting help to keep up.  Sargent concluded by saying, “Keymora has impressed me with her positive attitude and willingness to work hard to achieve her goals.” Douglas is the daughter of Tamala Douglas.

Ashley Canto is the Employee of the Month.  The Fort Dodge Middle School administrative team nominated her. They shared that last year, the Middle School had to shift some positions around, ultimately leaving one of the student support positions vacant. Canto stepped up and did both jobs for the remainder of the year. During that time she continued to develop relationships with students and families. Canto was an integral part of the Middle Schools' reduction in physical aggression behaviors and fights through the implementation of Restorative Justice. In addition to her job duties, she is also the family engagement coordinator, a member of the District MTSS team, the PBIS/MTSS team, and Tier I, II, and III teams. Her dedication to the district, families, and the success of students is undeniable and she is an avid advocate of all students. They concluded by saying, “Ashley always has a positive attitude and welcomes every student with a smile on her face. She is always willing to listen and support anyone in need.”
