FDCSD Students Selected to Opus Honor Choir

October 23, 2019

October 23, 2019, Fort Dodge, IA-  Brayden Schmieder and Ryan Madden, ninth grade students at Fort Dodge Senior High, along with Jillian Leman, 6th grade student at Fort Dodge Middle School, were recently selected to participate in the 34th annual Opus Honor Choir.

OPUS Honor Choir is sponsored by the Iowa Choral Director’s Association and aims to identify and bring together the very best 5-9 grade singers from around the state to deliver a meaningful musical experience for each singer.

Over 2,600 students were nominated by their directors for 720 positions in the four Opus Honor Choirs. Selections were made by means of a recorded audition. Auditions included performing music for the choir as well as other technical elements of singing such as a major scale and short etude.

“Being selected to the OPUS Honor Choir is a big honor for our younger singers,” said Matt Drees, FDSH vocal instructor. “All three students put many hours into preparing for their auditions and I’m proud of them for their efforts. Being a participant in this festival will be a wonderful learning and performance experience for these students.”

This year’s OPUS Honor Choir Festival Concert will take place at CY Stephens Auditorium on the Iowa State University campus on Thursday, November 21, at 4:00 p.m.  .
