FDMS Musicians Selected to Karl King Honor Bands
January 30, 2014, Fort Dodge, IA- Eight Fort Dodge Middle School students were selected as members of the 2014 Karl King Honor Bands. The groups performed January 18.
Both the 6th and 7th grade honor bands consisted of 110 members. Students were nominated by their directors and selected by a committee from the hosting school. Students received their music in December to practice and learn on their own during band lessons. The honor bands spent only four and half hours practicing as full bands on the concert day.
“The honor band experience is valuable for our students because it provides a non-competitive experience with students from other schools,” said Tara Smith, middle school band instructor. “They learn that with hard work and focus a lot can be accomplished in a short amount of time. I was proud of how our kids performed!”
Students representing Fort Dodge Middle School were:
Beth Jondle - flute
Taylor Smith - clarinet
Jonathon Madden - baritone
Kayla Smith – clarinet
Ben Gardner – bassoon
Kacee Gollob – trumpet
Keziah Henkelman – trombone
Austin Andrews - tuba
