FDSH to Present Flowers for Algernon as Fall Play
October 24, 2016, Fort Dodge, IA- The Fort Dodge Senior High drama department will present Flowers for Algernon at 7 p.m. on November 4th and 5th in the Gail Nicewanger Little Theater at Senior High.
In Flowers for Algernon Charlie Gordon is a 32-year old mentally disabled man who undergoes a groundbreaking surgery to “cure” him. As the play progresses, he becomes extremely intelligent, surpassing the doctors who performed the surgery and the teacher who has guided him. However, Charlie begins to regress and realizes that his fate is not promising.
This poignant, relevant and emotional play has been a favorite among theater-goers since its inception in 1959. It touches on the questions of scientific discovery, the importance of relationships and the societal view of people with mental challenges.
The play includes approximately 40 cast members and 15 backstage crew members. Leading roles are played by:
Max Halligan as Charlie Gordon
Annie Laird as Alice Kinnian
Malorie Tracy as Dr. Strauss
Collin Ellsbury as Professor Nemur
Admission is $4 for students and $6 for adults. Tickets may be purchased at the door. Activity tickets will not be honored. For more information contact the office at Senior High at 955.1770.
