Substitute Authorization Course Offered at FDCSD

November 28, 2022

The Fort Dodge Community School District, in collaboration with Prairie Lakes AEA, will be offering the Substitute Authorization Course on January 4 and 16, 2023.  Participants must attend class at the FDCSD from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. both days.

“Substitute teaching is an excellent opportunity for those who enjoy kids to give back to our community,” said Kim Whitmore, FDCSD Human Resources Director. “And, the flexible schedule makes substituting a great option for parents who want a similar schedule to their kids or for retirees.”

Requirements for class participation include a Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree or 60 semester hours of coursework in any field completed at an accredited college or university.  Participants must be at least 21 years of age.

“Individuals do not have to have a degree or background in education to become a substitute teacher,” Whitmore said. “The coursework can be in any field.  You just need to want to make a difference for kids.”

Substitute teachers are paid $150 per day in the FDCSD.

The cost of the course is $100 plus the cost of the handbook and licensure.

To register for the Substitute Authorization Course contact Lynzi Evans at 515.574.5650 or lyevans@fdschools.org by December 22.
