Vocal Trash Musical Group will Benefit BLAST for the Second Year
Recycled instruments, industrial drumming, a cappella singing and break dancing: Vocal Trash is back for the second consecutive year to put on a show Fort Dodge will never forget.
Vocal Trash will be bringing their high-kick, high-octane stage show to Fort Dodge on April 26 at Decker Auditorium on the Iowa Central campus. Profits from the event will again benefit Butler’s Learning After School Time, known as BLAST. The program allows children to experience what they don’t normally practice during the school day, such as culinary arts, Spanish, physical activity and greater social interaction. BLAST is a support system for working parents and guardians. It ensures that children are in a safe environment and cared for even after the last school bell rings.
Not only does the event benefit the BLAST program, but this is also a unique opportunity for the community to see a well-known, national group right here in Fort Dodge. From New York to the Iowa State Fair, Vocal Trash has performed worldwide. The group delivers a Broadway-style show that promotes an eco-friendly message through the use of instruments made out of recycled materials, such as trash can lids and water bottles. The lyrics in the songs they use also encourage environmental awareness.
To prepare for the arrival of Vocal Trash, BLAST students have been practicing the importance of recycling by collecting gallon milk cartons. With the help of the Senior High Art Club, the students are assembling an igloo created entirely out of milk cartons that will be showcased at the event.
Butler BLAST is available through a grant based on the percentage of children enrolled on free or reduced school lunches. The program is also funded through donations from local businesses and individuals. The program is offered after school until 6 p.m. each weekday with the help of teachers who give extra time and volunteers who make it all possible.
Vocal Trash is brought to Fort Dodge by the Fort Dodge Noon Rotary. Show time is set for 7 p.m. For more information please contact Cheryl O’Hern at 515-571-4788.
