Celebrating School Principals Day
The Fort Dodge Community School District is pleased to announce Laura Resnick as the new principal of Butler Elementary School for the 2025-2026 school year. Resnick brings more than 15 years of experience in education and a deep commitment to academic excellence, student growth, and fostering a positive, inclusive school environment. Her professional background includes a wide range of roles that reflect her dedication to student-centered learning and collaborative leadership. She began her career as a Spanish and English Language Learner (ELL) instructor in Kent, Ohio, where she gained valuable experience working with language learners and diverse student populations. Since then, she has served in multiple instructional leadership roles, including Instructional Coach and Literacy Specialist with the Tigard-Tualatin School District in Oregon. Most recently, she supported behavior and school systems as the Student Success Coordinator for the Storm Lake Community School District and worked as a School Improvement Facilitator with Prairie Lakes Area Education Agency. Resnick holds master's degrees in education and school leadership from Cleveland State University and Dordt University. She believes that every student can thrive when supported by a dedicated staff, engaged families, and a welcoming school community. “I am honored to join the Butler Elementary team,” Resnick said. “I look forward to working together with our teachers, staff, and families to build a school culture that celebrates achievement, encourages personal growth, and nurtures the whole child.” Outside of school, Resnick enjoys spending time with her family outdoors, playing soccer, reading, and crafting—activities she says help her maintain balance and perspective in her professional life. #proud2bFD

Student of the Week
Last week, foreign exchange student from Uzbekistan, Aynura Muftillaeva, performed a dance, "Maternal Grief" for her Study of Leadership Literature class. Amy (her nickname) is from the Republic of Karakalpakstan, which is also a part of Uzbekistan, and her dance is from the history of Karakalpak ancestors. The story is about a woman who was a ruler and a mother, Tomyris. She is known for her defeat and beheading of the Persian king, Cyrus the Great, following his responsibility for the loss of her troops and the death of her son. After the battle, she received a black letter, symbolizing death. The dance was born from her sorrow. One night, holding her letter and a lantern, she went into the street, where no one was around, and started dancing. As a ruler and leader, she could not show her vulnerability or grief to her people. The war was over, but her people and her lands needed recovery. They needed her. She had to remain strong in their eyes and be the support they needed, and even after her loss, she still was a leader. The dance not only carries the meaning of the deep sadness and loss, but also the great strength and determination in continuing to move forward. Ms. Adams' class was so very honored that Amy wanted to share this special dance for class!
