Exciting news from ECC! A few weeks ago, our scholars discovered 89 brand-new nonfiction books in their school library, made possible by a grant through the Fort Dodge Community Schools Foundation - and they were thrilled!
Right now, we’ve got a three-way tie for the most popular title:
🚒 Firefighting Planes by Bizzy Harris
🦥 Solitary Animals by Joshua David Stein
🦷 Different Teeth of Animals by Grace Hansen
A huge thank you to the FDCSD Foundation for making this possible! Your support helps spark curiosity and a love of learning in our students every day.
Dr. Sturgeon wrote the grant, and before the grant, the ECC nonfiction collection contained 801 books with an average publication date of 2004. Colleen Munter is the library associate who works every day with the students and checks out - and re-shelves! - their books. She does an excellent job of building a love for books and learning with the ECC scholars!
At ECC this year, they have checked out 2,772 books, including 612 nonfiction books!

Students have been spreading positivity with their “Cooper’s Ways of Kindness” board, proudly displayed in the hallway. Each heart is filled with student ideas for showing kindness—from helping friends to sharing a smile.
It’s a beautiful reminder that even small acts of kindness can make a big difference!
