In April, FDSH students participated in Iowa Central Community College's Health Science Competition, winning 1st and 2nd place! The competition was a timed race. Students went to various health science programs throughout campus where they were able to learn skills and then test on those skills. Once they completed the required task and answered questions correctly they were given clues for their next station. The teams that completed all of the stations the fastest were named winners. Some of the skills included properly conducting a COVID screen and strep reading, accurately lining up an x-ray machine, properly performing CPR, and donning and doffing personal protective equipment. 1st Place Team - all members won a $500 scholarship to ICCC Hailey Carstensen Jacey Cooper Jiselle Donahe Vanessa Marin campos Gavin Pederson Brooklyn Pommer Shawn Roberts 2nd Place Team - all members won a $300 scholarship to ICCC Natalie Baade Gabby Castro Ayva Foote Drew Mason Meah McCaleb Felicity Strain Cadence Tooney Way to go, Dodgers! Celebrating School Principals Day
The Fort Dodge Community School District is pleased to announce Laura Resnick as the new principal of Butler Elementary School for the 2025-2026 school year. Resnick brings more than 15 years of experience in education and a deep commitment to academic excellence, student growth, and fostering a positive, inclusive school environment. Her professional background includes a wide range of roles that reflect her dedication to student-centered learning and collaborative leadership. She began her career as a Spanish and English Language Learner (ELL) instructor in Kent, Ohio, where she gained valuable experience working with language learners and diverse student populations. Since then, she has served in multiple instructional leadership roles, including Instructional Coach and Literacy Specialist with the Tigard-Tualatin School District in Oregon. Most recently, she supported behavior and school systems as the Student Success Coordinator for the Storm Lake Community School District and worked as a School Improvement Facilitator with Prairie Lakes Area Education Agency. Resnick holds master's degrees in education and school leadership from Cleveland State University and Dordt University. She believes that every student can thrive when supported by a dedicated staff, engaged families, and a welcoming school community. “I am honored to join the Butler Elementary team,” Resnick said. “I look forward to working together with our teachers, staff, and families to build a school culture that celebrates achievement, encourages personal growth, and nurtures the whole child.” Outside of school, Resnick enjoys spending time with her family outdoors, playing soccer, reading, and crafting—activities she says help her maintain balance and perspective in her professional life. #proud2bFD
