Fort Dodge Senior High student and HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America) member, Grace Winkel, has been practicing for her competitive event at a state competition next month in veterinary medicine. Grace discovered her passion for veterinary medicine at a young age while spending time on her grandfather’s farm. She loved following him around as he cared for his animals, treating diseases like distemper in kittens, and administering medicine to cows to keep flies away. These experiences sparked her love for animal care and inspired her to help as many animals as possible. As she prepares for her HOSA competition in Veterinary Medicine, Grace has been using the Anatomage table to enhance her understanding of anatomy. This advanced tool provides a hands-on learning experience. She can see how bones align to form joints, visualize organ placement, and better understand how the body moves. After high school, Grace plans to attend college to become a Veterinary Orthopedic Surgeon for both large and small animals. She hopes to return to Fort Dodge to help address the growing shortage of veterinarians in the area. Through her involvement with HOSA, she has gained hands-on experience in subjects like anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology, helping to prepare her for the next step in her education. This will be Grace’s first time competing in a HOSA event, and she is excited to challenge herself, connect with peers who share her interests, and expand her knowledge of veterinary medicine. Good luck, Grace! #proud2bFD

The 5th graders at Cooper Elementary are exploring how objects in space move and interact with each other. As part of their study, they designed a tool to measure the sun’s shadow at different times of the day. This project required teamwork, focus, and patience as they worked together to determine how all the pieces fit. #proud2bFD
